Craving for slower media

It’s all starting to look the same —

hyper-edited videos, a fast talking head, a shirtless guy screaming at a cereal box inside a grocery store — 20 seconds of anxiety-inducing information that I’ll probably forget in less than 20 seconds.

Then why do I keep coming back for the quick hits of information?

Doomscrolling.

Passively “liking”.

I do it for the funny memes and mood boosting videos of cute babies, cats, and dogs. I get cravings from drool-worthy food photos of cuisines from around the world. I imagine myself living inside travel videos, checking off “The Top 5 Things To Do In _____ (insert destination here)”. I seek inspiration from motivational quotes, workout routines, and film photography. And if I’m lucky, I find connection in art that expresses honestly.

But to be honest, it’s starting to feel like fast food. If I have too much, it makes me feel sick.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel a strong pull toward slower media.

I remember the time I tried TikTok. I couldn’t last for more than 5 minutes. How can I follow a recipe when someone is speaking in fast-forward? It was so hard for my brain to process what I was watching. I just wanted to it to stop.

It makes me wonder…

What does our mind do with all this information?

Am I really learning anything?

Are these thoughts really mine or someone else’s?

There’s just too much noise out there.

When things get noisy, I intentionally step back and slow the fuck down, sometimes unplugging completely.

Meditate. It’s surprising what you can hear when sitting in silence.

I remind myself to be more mindful of what and how much I consume. This idea doesn’t just apply to nutrition — it also applies to our mind.

I want to see more of…

pieces of writing that make me stop and think.

videos that evoke emotion.

photographs that tell a story.

music that makes me hit repeat.

If it’s not that, I’m spending little to no energy on it…for the most part.

They say to create more than you consume. I guess I’ll have to make more of what I want to see. I’ll share some, but I’ll keep some just for me.

So, here comes the rebirth of the blog. Hope you enjoy. If you don’t, that’s ok too. Remember, you get to choose what to feed your mind.
